What Would I Do?
A
Cal Poly Phonathon Caller is responsible for talking with Cal Poly alumni,
parents, and friends as a fundraiser and “friend-raiser.”
You will be part of a team that will raise funds for Cal Poly's
academic units, athletic programs, the Kennedy library, and Cal Poly Arts
program. As a part of this team, you will work with about 20 other
students nightly and you will have a lot of fun!
As student representatives for Cal Poly, you will also update various
alumni information and inform your contacts about events going on
throughout the University.

When Do I Work?
Schedules for our callers are relatively flexible. The shifts run from
5:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Sunday through Thursday, and there is also a shift from 1:30 PM to 5:00PM
on Sunday.
All callers are required to work a minimum of three shifts each week.
Schedules are set at the beginning of each quarter, although you can
switch shifts with other callers if the need arises. We do not call during
extended campus holidays such as Winter and Spring breaks and
Thanksgiving.

|
How Much Do I Make?
We start all new callers at $7.25/hr + bonuses. Caller bonuses average
$1.40/hr and are based on individual performance.

How Do You Select Callers?
First
of all, you must be a current student at Cal Poly, SLO. We need you to be
reliable, dependable and able to handle the rigors of school while
maintaining a steady job.
All our students must have an excellent command of the language and
speak with a clear and a concise manner. They must convey enthusiasm for
Cal Poly in a professional style.
Although you do not need to have any previous telemarketing experience,
you must enjoy talking to people you've never met, listening to their
stories, and be able to share a bit of yourself in your calls.

Why Should I Be A Student Caller?
The
experience student callers gain is extremely valuable. You learn a lot
about the departments here on campus and a bit of Cal Poly history from
many of the alumni you speak with.
You learn how to communicate effectively and “sell” both yourself
and Cal Poly over the phone. Most callers find the experience invaluable,
and no matter what your major is or what kind of job you get upon
graduation, you will use this experience.
You will get to know many other students (we usually have a staff of
over 40!) and enjoy the flexibility of a campus job. Most importantly, you
will be making a difference by helping the university enhance its alumni
relations, while gaining needed funds for Cal Poly.
