 The
Phonathon is a section of the Cal Poly Fund department that solicits
donations by phone from Cal Poly alumni, parents, and friends.
As the central annual giving department, our department is responsible for
calling and mailing on behalf of all the colleges and units at the
university.
As a result, we call year-round and contact over 69,000 people each
year. Our department was created because of the need to supplement state
and tuition dollars to provide the best education possible for our
students. Since it's inception, the Cal Poly Fund has grown by leaps and
bounds. This past fiscal year, our department received over
$2.3 million for the university from over 21,000 mail and phone
gifts.
The Phonathon is vital to the university not only for the donations we
receive, but also because of the data we provide, the updated information
we obtain, and the relationships we form and keep with all our alumni,
parents, and friends. We focus on a "friend-raising" approach to
our solicitations and strive to increase both donations and friends of the
university.
